Snow Portraits - Photographing Bay City

Brady Kenniston March 2, 2016

If you spend any time here in Michigan, you're bound to hear someone say, "the weather can turn on a dime," and boy are they right.

I had asked yesterday if anyone would like to do a few portraits in the snow and at the time I had put the call out there, it was gorgeous. The snow was coming down gently, the roads were alright but as we started to make our way into town, I quickly realized that it all had changed. As I watched downtown Bay City come into view, it was just pure insanity. No visibility, a foot of snow on the road, cars stuck, and anyone that was out and about was driving the opposite way that I was going to get home before they got stranded in the wasteland that was the city.

I'll be honest, it was a bad idea to be out there. It was really dangerous. The images though, are incredible.  I need to thank Amanda, Alyssa, and Brooke for being total troopers dealing with the wind and the sandpaper-like snow. They were amazing and I can't thank their parents enough for getting them out there safely and helping me make some amazing shots.

The opportunity to shoot in conditions like this only come around once or twice a year and I'm elated to say that we made these in such an insane situation. It was certainly risky, but now we have one more story to tell.

Snowed In - A Typical Michigan Situation

Brady Kenniston February 24, 2016

The urge to be creative can be almost blinding at times but none more when you are trapped inside your Midwestern home, without power, in the middle of February, in a blizzard. These are the times were your creativity can really save you from cabin fever.

On the day of me posting this entry, my family was without power for only a few hours but the want to do interesting and fun in that time was killing us. While I can't really help out their situation, I ended up grabbing one camera, my favorite and most simple camera, my Fuji X100s, and made a project out of documenting the storm. From inside of course, no one needs to go outside and get pelted by snow that ends up feeling more like 80 grit sandpaper on your face.

I only shot a few images, turned them all black & white and I'm very happy with the results! Next time you are stuck in a snow storm (most likely we will be tomorrow again) grab a camera, a sketchbook, or anything and make something beautiful! Check out my images above!

Terra & Justin - Engagement Photos

Brady Kenniston February 24, 2016

Engagement photos are quickly becoming one of my favorite things to photograph and spending the day with Terra & Justin was no exception. These two were a blast to be around! Both of them were so full of energy, not only for the session but for each other which made shooting amazing photos such a breeze! I'm so excited to see and photograph these two getting married in October, it's definitely going to be a day to remember!

Jazmine & Raelyn - Sisters

Brady Kenniston February 23, 2016

Jazmine, who is turning 5 soon, and Raelyn, who is turning 1 soon, were so much fun to work with! Their mom Stacy wanted to get some photos for their birthdays and having photographed their family before, I couldn't wait to do more for them. I'm so happy with how these turned out!

As someone who mostly photographs teenagers or older, it's always super refreshing to make some amazing images with younger kids, especially when they are my cousins. This is only second or third time doing these types of shots and I'm so excited to shoot many more in the future!
